CARROLLTON, AL — Authorities say a 1,500-pound bull that escaped near Pickens Academy on Friday prompted an unusual response from law enforcement, sending deputies and police officers on an impromptu rodeo before the animal was safely captured.

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) said Friday afternoon that deputies and officers with the Carrollton Police Department responded Aug. 7 after the bull was spotted loose near the school.
PCSO said the animal initially refused to cooperate, leading officers on what the sheriff's office jokingly described as a game of "I ain't complying with anything you ask."
The chase included a foot pursuit across U.S. Highway 17 and back again, along with a few slips and falls by those trying to corral the animal.
Despite the excitement, the bull was safely rounded up without injury.
The sheriff's office thanked everyone who assisted in capturing the animal and joked that the experience proved deputies are "probably better off patrolling the county than trying to make a living on the rodeo circuit."
