Two Juveniles Charged With Murder For Fatal Tuscaloosa Shooting

As Patch previously reported, Tuscaloosa Police responded at approximately 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, to a report of a shooting in the 5500 block of 20th Avenue East.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said Monday that officers arrived to find 19-year-old Kaleb Tyrone Rollins dead in the roadway from a gunshot wound.

Kennedy said investigators believe the shooting occurred during an attempted firearm transaction involving Rollins and several juveniles.

Kennedy then said Rollins, who was unarmed, was speaking with the juveniles through the window of a vehicle when money was exchanged.

Investigators allege the juveniles attempted to drive away without providing the firearm that had been agreed upon.

Kennedy said Rollins was dragged several feet by the vehicle before one of the juvenile occupants shot and killed him, investigators said.

He went on to say that investigators interviewed witnesses, obtained surveillance video from the area, executed numerous search warrants and conducted an extensive, multi-day search for people of interest in the case.

Two juvenile males under the age of 18 were subsequently arrested and charged as adults with felony murder.

Both were committed to the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond.

Authorities have not released the identities of the defendants.

Kennedy cited Alabama law prohibiting law enforcement agencies from releasing photographs, likenesses or personal identifying information from law enforcement records involving juveniles charged as adults under the applicable section of state law.

The investigation remains ongoing and Kennedy said additional suspects could face charges.
