United Way Of West Alabama Sets Historic $5M Fundraising Goal For 80th Campaign

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The United Way of West Alabama (UWWA) kicked off its 80th annual fundraising campaign Tuesday with a historic goal of raising $5 million to support communities across West Alabama.

The organization announced the milestone goal during its 80th Anniversary Campaign Kickoff Luncheon at the Bryant Conference Center, where community leaders, volunteers, partner agencies and longtime supporters gathered to mark eight decades of service.

"We are cautiously ambitious about reaching our goal this year," UWWA President and CEO Jackie Wuska said. "We know many people are struggling more than ever as the cost of everyday necessities continues to rise."

Wuska pointed to the growing financial pressure on families paying for groceries, gas and back-to-school supplies, while expressing confidence that West Alabama residents and businesses will continue their tradition of supporting those in need.

Past Campaign Chair Lin Moore unveiled the $5 million goal with help from other former campaign chairs, Big Al and the University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band.

UWWA says approximately 80 of the roughly 1,200 United Way organizations worldwide raise more than $5 million annually, adding significance to the fundraising target during the organization's 80th anniversary year.

The luncheon also featured participation from local organizations and those served by United Way programs, including a Success By 6 student, a local Boy Scout troop, the parents of an Arts 'n Autism preschool student and Sounds of Joy.
