Fisher began the role Monday, bringing more than 20 years of human resources leadership experience in the health care industry.

DCH says his background includes work in employee engagement and retention, leadership development, performance management and workforce strategy.

He most recently served as chief human resources officer for Maury Regional Health in Columbia, Tennessee, a three-hospital system with approximately 3,100 employees.

During his time at Maury Regional, Fisher was credited with developing workforce and succession-planning initiatives, implementing a new human resources business consultant model and working on strategies aimed at reducing the system's reliance on agency nurses.

He also established a gig workforce designed to help hospitals avoid bed closures caused by staffing shortages, implemented a wellness program and helped reduce controllable employee turnover through changes to the onboarding process, according to DCH.

"I am excited about the opportunity to join DCH Health System and be part of an organization that is so important to the communities it serves," Fisher said. "People are at the heart of every successful healthcare organization, and I look forward to listening to our caregivers, learning from their experiences and partnering with leaders across DCH to create an environment where our people feel supported, valued and empowered to do their best work."

Fisher previously held leadership positions with Baptist Memorial Health Systems, Northeast Georgia Health System and Wellstar Health System.

Earlier in his career, he worked directly with patients and families in customer service and behavioral health positions.

DCH Chief Operating Officer Mallary Myers said Fisher's experience developing employees and strengthening organizations would make him an important addition to the Tuscaloosa-based health system.

"We are confident his leadership will help us continue to advance our workforce strategies and support our caregivers across the health system," Myers said.

Fisher holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in human resources from Keller Graduate School of Management and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Jackson State University.

He is also certified as a senior professional in Human Resources and holds the Society for Human Resource Management's Senior Certified Professional credential.
