Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, confirmed Tuesday that the third juvenile, who had remained at large following the arrests of two other suspects, has been taken into custody.

The latest suspect was charged with capital murder as an adult and booked into jail without bond, Kennedy said.

The arrest comes after two other juvenile males were arrested and charged as adults with felony murder in connection with the shooting death of 19-year-old Kaleb Tyrone Rollins.

As Patch previously reported, Tuscaloosa Police responded at approximately 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, to a shooting in the 5500 block of 20th Avenue East, where officers found Rollins dead in the roadway from a gunshot wound.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred during an attempted firearm transaction involving Rollins and several juveniles.

Kennedy said Rollins was unarmed and speaking with the juveniles through the window of a vehicle when money was exchanged.

Investigators allege the juveniles then attempted to drive away without providing the firearm that had been agreed upon.

Rollins was reportedly dragged several feet by the vehicle before one of its occupants shot and killed him.

Following the shooting, investigators interviewed witnesses, obtained surveillance video, executed numerous search warrants and conducted an extensive, multi-day search for people of interest.

Kennedy said Tuesday that all suspects in the case are now in custody.

Due to Alabama law, police are prohibited from releasing identifying information concerning the juvenile defendants, despite the suspects being charged as adults.
