MOUNDVILLE, AL — Authorities are investigating after a Moundville Police Department officer reportedly shot a wanted man during a traffic stop Monday night on Alabama Highway 69 in Tuscaloosa County.

Moundville Police Chief Toby Banks first told the Moundville Times that the shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Sept. 1 during a traffic stop involving a man from Akron.
Banks said the man was wanted on multiple warrants from several law enforcement agencies, though additional information regarding the warrants was not immediately available.
The newspaper reported that the man was taken to an area hospital following the shooting and was listed in stable condition as of Tuesday morning.
His identity has not been released.
The Moundville police officer involved in the incident was not seriously injured, Banks said. The officer's identity was also not immediately released.
The Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Unit is now investigating the shooting.

Banks told the newspaper the officer will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation and other judicial proceedings.
