TUSCALOOSA, AL — Investigators say a Moundville police officer deployed a Taser twice before opening fire on a wanted man who resisted arrest during a traffic stop Tuesday night on Alabama Highway 69.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said in an update Wednesday afternoon that the incident began around 10 p.m. Sept. 1 when a Moundville police officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 69 South in Tuscaloosa County.
Investigators later determined the driver had outstanding warrants in both Tuscaloosa and Hale counties.
Kennedy said the man got out of the vehicle and the officer attempted to take him into custody. The man resisted, resulting in an altercation between the two.
During the struggle, Kennedy said, the officer deployed his Taser twice before firing his gun several times.
The man was struck once by gunfire but was able to get back into his vehicle and flee the scene, Kennedy said.
Authorities located him a short time later at the home of a nearby family member. He was transported to an area hospital, where Kennedy said he is being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Kennedy said the man's identity is being withheld while he receives medical treatment for security reasons.
Investigators expect to identify the man once he is formally charged on the outstanding warrants and taken into custody.
As Patch previously reported, Moundville Police Chief Toby Banks first told the Moundville Times that the man is from Akron.
Banks also said the Moundville police officer involved in the shooting was not seriously injured and will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation and subsequent judicial proceedings.
Because the shooting occurred in Tuscaloosa County, the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit was called to conduct the investigation.
Kennedy said investigators will turn over their findings to the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's Office once the investigation is complete.
The case will then be presented to a grand jury.
