The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) said it plans to resurface a 2.53-mile stretch of I-20/59 from near Exit 68 to the Interstate 359 interchange as part of an effort to improve mobility and safety along the heavily traveled corridor.

S.T. Bunn Construction Co. was awarded the project for approximately $2.68 million.

The project began Tuesday and is expected to continue for approximately three months, weather permitting.

ALDOT said work will be limited primarily to nighttime hours, with lane closures prohibited between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. in an effort to minimize disruptions to daytime traffic.

Lane closures will also not be permitted on Saturdays when the University of Alabama football team has a home game in Tuscaloosa.

Drivers can find real-time traffic and road condition information through ALDOT's ALGOTraffic app and website.
