TUSCALOOSA, AL — Paul W. Bryant High School boys basketball coach Shon Peck-Love is retiring after 15 seasons leading the Stampede, with longtime assistant Norvie Womack set to take over the program.

The Tuscaloosa City Board of Education unanimously approved Peck-Love's retirement and Womack's appointment during its meeting Tuesday night.
TCS says Peck-Love leaves the program after a tenure that included more than 300 victories, nine area championships, 10 Sweet 16 appearances and five trips to the Final Four.
His teams captured two Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) state championships, winning titles in 2017 and 2025, while also finishing as state runner-up once.
The Central High graduate and former Crimson Tide basketball player was named the Alabama Sports Writers Association's Coach of the Year in 2017.
Before his time at Alabama, Peck-Love played under the all-time winningest college basketball coach at any level, Gene Bess, at Three Rivers Community College.
Peck-Love was the MVP of the 1992 NJCAA National Champion Three Rivers Community College Raiders and was also named NJCAA National Player of the Year after he averaged 19.6 points per game and 10.6 rebounds.
He would go on to leave his biggest mark as a high school basketball coach in his hometown, though.
"We are deeply grateful for Coach Peck-Love's 15 years of unwavering service to our school," Paul W. Bryant Principal Eric Hines said. "His impact on our community goes far beyond the wins and losses on the basketball court. He has been a mentor, a leader, and a pillar of strength for our students."
Hines said Peck-Love leaves an "indelible mark" on the program and the Paul W. Bryant High community.
Womack, meanwhile, moves into the head coaching role after serving as an assistant under Peck-Love for the past several seasons.
The school said Womack has been an important part of the program's recent success and already has familiarity with its players, culture and expectations.
"We look forward to Coach Womack continuing the upward trajectory of our basketball program," Hines said. "Having been a crucial part of our coaching staff, he understands our culture, our values, and our expectations."
Hines said the school expects Womack to continue developing players on and off the court as the Stampede pursue the program's third state championship.
"I have no doubt that Coach Womack will continue to build character, mold young men, and lead our program with class and excellence as we pursue our third State Championship," Hines said.
