TUSCALOOSA, AL — State and local officials gathered Tuesday to celebrate the completion of improvements to the Riverview Public Boat Ramp in Tuscaloosa, part of a series of upgrades aimed at improving access to the Black Warrior River.

The Riverview Landing facility, located at 599 Seventh Avenue Northeast, temporarily closed in May for the installation of a new access pier.
Other recent improvements include a new launching slab installed in 2024 and paving of the parking area by the City of Tuscaloosa in 2025.
Officials said the facility is also ADA accessible.
"Alabama is blessed with incredible freshwater resources and deserves the best quality boating and fishing access for our outdoor recreation community," Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) Commissioner Chris Blankenship said.
Blankenship said the Riverview project, along with improvements at Foster's Ferry in Tuscaloosa County and the Moundville Public Boat Ramp, resulted from partnerships between state and local agencies.
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said the improvements provide another way for residents and visitors to take advantage of the Black Warrior River.
"The investment in the Riverview boat ramp creates even more opportunities for our community to enjoy one of Tuscaloosa's greatest natural resources," Maddox said. "We're grateful for our partnership with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and their commitment to making this public space even better."
As Patch previously reported, the Foster's Ferry Public Boat Ramp, located approximately 10 miles southwest of Tuscaloosa, saw ADCNR partner with Tuscaloosa County to repair and repave the parking lot and address drainage issues.
The launching slab at the Moundville Public Boat Ramp was also replaced and reoriented to make loading and unloading boats easier while reducing the potential for damage caused by larger vessels on the river.
Republican State Sen. Matt Woods called the projects an investment in public access and quality of life in west Alabama.
"The new access pier, launching improvements and upgraded parking will make Riverview safer and more convenient for local families, anglers and boaters," Woods said.
Officials said funding for the projects came primarily through the Sport Fish Restoration Program, which is supported by excise taxes on outboard motor fuel and fishing equipment, along with revenue from Alabama fishing license sales.
Additional funding was provided by Innovate Alabama.
