New Piggly Wiggly Opens In Tuscaloosa's Five Points

TUSCALOOSA, AL — B&W Foods has opened a new Piggly Wiggly in Tuscaloosa's Five Points neighborhood, marking the family-owned company's sixth location in Tuscaloosa County.

B&W Foods says the new grocery store offers several features that are new to Piggly Wiggly West Alabama's Tuscaloosa locations, including full-service bakery, deli and floral departments.

The store also includes a specialty meat case offering custom and specialty cuts from Piggly Wiggly butchers, along with fresh produce, groceries and other household staples.

"This has always been about more than opening another Piggly Wiggly," B&W Foods co-owner Jay Welborn said. "Five Points has a long history as a place where people in this community shop, gather and see familiar faces."

Welborn said the company wanted to bring a neighborhood grocery store back to Five Points while expanding the fresh and full-service options available to customers.

"We're incredibly thankful for the support this community has shown our family and our stores, and we're proud to be part of the next chapter at Five Points," he said.

The opening gives B&W Foods six Piggly Wiggly locations in Tuscaloosa County and eight stores overall. The company also operates locations in Haleyville and Phil Campbell.

Additionally, Tuscaloosa Drug Company is preparing to open an independent pharmacy inside the new Five Points store.

The locally owned pharmacy has served the Five Points area for more than a decade and will continue operating in the neighborhood as part of the new grocery store.

An opening date for the pharmacy has not yet been announced.
