TUSCALOOSA, AL — Local advocacy organizations will once again host a "No Kings" demonstration in downtown Tuscaloosa on Saturday, Oct. 17.
According to a social media announcement from Indivisible West Alabama, the event will take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Government Plaza, located at 618 Almon Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa.
The demonstration is being promoted under the slogans "We the People" and "Say No Kings," with organizers encouraging residents to participate in the political process and exercise their voting rights.
"Come out, register to vote, check your voter registration, and stand up for democracy," Indivisible West Alabama said in its announcement.
The Tuscaloosa Branch of the NAACP is among the organizations associated with the event, along with several other groups like the Tuscaloosa County Democratric Party.
Promotional materials also feature organizations including the Montgomery Freedom Fighters, Leftist Collective and Donuts + Democracy.
As Patch previously reported, the "No Kings" movement has organized demonstrations across the country to protest what participants describe as authoritarian tendencies in American government and to emphasize democratic accountability.
Additional information about the nationwide movement is available at NoKings.org.
