Carbon Hill Man Charged After Biting Walker Co. Deputy During Fight

CARBON HILL, AL — The Walker County Sheriff's Office says one of its deputies is recovering after being bitten by a suspect during an altercation when responding to a call on Tuesday.

According to investigators, the deputy responded to a call for service where an individual was randomly attacked at Abundant Life Church when he stopped to check on his overheating vehicle.

WCSO says a suspect was developed based on numerous calls for disturbances caused by a particular individual.
When the deputy made contact with the suspect in question, the man immediately spit in the deputy's face and threw his drink on the his uniform, before punching the deputy in the face.

The deputy reportedly fought with the suspect for about 20 minutes, during which time the suspect bit the deputy on the arm and would not let go.
Another deputy, along with officers from the Carbon Hill Police Department, arrived on the scene to assist the deputy with the suspect.
Billy Joe Myers, 45, of Carbon Hill, was ultimately charged with felony assault second degree on a police officer, second degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
Myers and the deputy were then both treated at area hospitals.
Myers was reportedly out on bond for trespassing on property he thought was owned by Alabama Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban.
The deputy is recovering and is already back on the job.
