Free Car Seats Available In Tuscaloosa For Those Who Qualify On Oct. 13

Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue on Tuesday announced that Safe Kids Tuscaloosa will be providing free car seats to those who qualify on Oct. 13.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue on Tuesday announced that Safe Kids Tuscaloosa will be providing free car seats to those who qualify on Oct. 13.

Those wishing to receive a car seat must schedule an appointment by calling (205) 469-1234.

Funding for the program and seats was made available through state program from Safe Kids Tuscaloosa Car Seat/Booster Seat project.

Children are eligible for one free seat in their lifetime and must receive some type of public assistance from the state. This can be validated through showing a Medicaid card or letter, food stamps, WIC and All Kids Insurance.

Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue says parents and caregivers must make an appointment and come for a car seat check at the CPS Check Center, preferably in the vehicle the child will be riding in, along with the vehicle owner's manual and no more passengers than seat belts available.

Those receiving the car seats must also be taught how to correctly install the seat and harness the child in the seat.
