Self-Defense Posed After Fatal Shooting In Tuscaloosa

A man is dead in what investigators initially believe was an act of self-defense following a shooting Monday night in Tuscaloosa.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — In an update following a Monday night shooting int Tuscaloosa, the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit says a man is dead and issues of self-defense have been raised after a suspect was taken into custody.

This comes after Patch previously reported that the Tuscaloosa Police Department responded to the 300 block of 24th Street Monday night multiple calls of a shooting

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multiagency metro unit, told local media early Tuesday morning that Tibaous Giles, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kennedy then said responding TPD officers located and took the suspect into custody, before VCU was called out to assume the investigation.

"Possible issues of self-defense have been raised in this incident and no arrests have been made at this time," he said. "This case is still under active investigation and no other information will be released."

The shooting is the second for Tuscaloosa County on Monday, as Patch previously reported, following what police believe was a shooting resulting from an attempted robbery in Northport Monday afternoon that sent one male victim to the hospital and has yet to produce a victim. However unlikely, it remains unclear if the two shootings are related.
