TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit says it is investigating a shooting early Sunday morning in the area of University Boulevard on The Strip.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Violent Crimes Unit, told local media that the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the University of Alabama Police Department responded to the initial shooting call at approximately 1:45 a.m.

He did not specify if there was anyone struck by gunfire during the incident or if any other arrests are expected.

Kennedy said one person is in custody and there is no reason to suggest there is any danger to the surrounding area.

The incident marks the second shooting for Tuscaloosa over the weekend, following a fatal shooting on Saturday morning that left one man dead and represented the fourth homicide for Tuscaloosa County in 2023.
