Tuscaloosa Academy To Enter AHSAA In Class 2A

Here's a look at the reclassification for Tuscaloosa Academy as the school enters the public school ranks in athletics.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa Academy is making the move to public school sports in 2022 and will do so as a Class 2A school in the Alabama High School Athletic Association.

According to the AHSAA's 2022-2024 reclassifications, TA will compete in 2A Region 5 against the following schools:

  • Aliceville
  • Cold Springs
  • Greene County
  • Lamar County
  • Sulligent
  • Winston County

Patch reported in October that the Tuscaloosa Academy Board of Trustees voted to accept an invitation to compete in the AHSAA, beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

Private schools competing within the public school ranks is not uncommon practice in athletics, especially in Tuscaloosa, where both American Christian Academy and Holy Spirit Catholic School are participating members of the AHSAA.
