The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) says at approximately 7:54 p.m. Thursday, Ernest R. Mealer Jr., 53, was fatally injured when the 2015 Dodge Dart that he was driving left the roadway and struck two embankments before overturning and landing in a creek.

The fatal crash occurred on Bibb County Road 9 near Vernon Town Road, roughly three miles north of Brent.
ALEA explained that once in the creek, the Dodge caught on fire and became completely engulfed in flames.

Mealer was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
