Longtime Historical Society leader Shelia Bruce reflects on preserving Vestavia Hills' history, from uncovering a George Ward statue to digitizing archives, and encourages neighbors to get involved in keeping the community's story alive.
   

• Haunt the Hills returns for annual community Halloween celebration (vestaviavoice.com) — Vestavia Hills families can mark their calendars for Friday, Oct. 23, when Haunt the Hills returns to Wald Park with free trick-or-treating, games, inflatables and a movie night. Hosted by the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce, the event features costume and pumpkin contests, food trucks, pet-friendly fun, and convenient parking at Wald Park, Vestavia Hills Elementary West and the Board of Education.
   

• Vestavia Hills considers next step for Eastside library (abc3340.com) — City leaders in Vestavia Hills are weighing a proposal to restart detailed planning for a potential Eastside library and community facility, especially serving Liberty Park and Cahaba Heights. The amendment wouldn't fund construction yet, but would fast-track work on costs, location, design and public input, as supporters push for more meeting space and expanded library programs, backed by a growing petition.
