Here are the top 3 stories today in Anchorage:

  1. Grab your mittens and rain jacket, because Fur Rendezvous is back this year and is supposedly going to be a return to the Rondy celebrations of days past. The Alaska State Snow Sculpture competition is already underway! All the carvers have been hard at work and are almost ready to show off their pieces. The Rondy carnival is also a part of the planned activities, complete with treats and rides. (Anchorage Daily News)
  2. Business owners and residents of downtown Anchorage want to stop the owner of LED Ultra Lounge and Grill from relocating to a new spot. This opposition group is worried about the new location attracting a "rowdy crowd" to the area. They are calling on the Downtown Community Council to oppose the license transfer. Other concerns reportedly include speculation about the owner, Robert Alexander, and his previous run-ins with the law. (Anchorage Daily News)
  3. Congressman Don Young issued a statement today in response to the commencement of Russian military action against Ukraine. He stated that "people everywhere have long known Vladimir Putin to be an authoritarian thug." However, he believes that America has never backed down from a dictator before and it will not start now. Young advocated for standing with the Ukrainian people in the fight for peace, democracy, and self-determination. (Alaska Native News)
