Anchorage Assembly presses School Board for equal role in school closures (thealaskastory.com) — Anchorage residents may soon see the Assembly formally demand equal decision-making power with the School Board on which neighborhood schools close or consolidate. A resolution at Tuesday's Assembly meeting would push for a joint, long-term committee and more public input, arguing that shrinking enrollment and excess buildings require transparent planning that protects families, traffic patterns, and future uses of school properties.
3. Republican candidate for Alaska House challenges her disqualification from primary election (adn.com) — An Anchorage-area House race is in flux as Republican candidate Sarah Short sues to overturn her disqualification from the primary over a late financial disclosure. She's asking Anchorage Superior Court to restore her to the November ballot, arguing similar candidates were allowed to run, and says she'll mount a write-in campaign if the challenge fails.
