Dating apps suck: Anchorage singles try for love among the chokecherries (alaskapublic.org) — Anchorage singles recently met up in Tikishla Park's Airport Heights neighborhood to yank invasive chokecherry saplings while looking for real-life connections beyond dating apps. Nearly 40 people turned out to work in the brush, swap stories, and maybe exchange numbers. Organizers plan another singles-focused invasive plant pull on October 2 for those who missed it.
   

2. Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport posts strong passenger, cargo growth in first half of 2026 (thealaskastory.com) — Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is seeing nearly 9% more passengers and over 10% more cargo in early 2026, bringing new routes, airlines, and jobs to Anchorage. Major public and private investments will add cargo hardstands, an on-site hotel, and improved terminal amenities, while federal grants fund upgrades at both the airport and Lake Hood. The growth strengthens tourism, commerce, and access across Alaska.
   

3. Pedestrian in fatal hit-and-run was discharged from Anchorage sleep-off center minutes earlier, charges say (adn.com) — A woman was fatally struck in a hit-and-run just minutes after being discharged from Anchorage's municipal sobering center near the jail complex, raising questions about discharge practices. Prosecutors say the driver briefly stopped, then fled before being arrested, and the victim became the sixth pedestrian killed on Anchorage roads this year. Officials have not yet detailed any changes to safety-center policies.
   

4. Despite three heart attacks and two strokes — Anchorage man plans to tackle Heart Run on Saturday (alaskasnewssource.com) — An Anchorage man who has survived three heart attacks and two strokes will join other survivors in today's Alaska Heart Run and Walk at the Alaska Airlines Center. Now 59, he credits local medical teams, friends, and lifestyle changes for his recovery. The event raises money for heart research, education, and CPR training that benefits Alaskans.
   

5. Documentary on Anchorage homelessness begins statewide Alaska screening tour (alaskasnewssource.com) — A new documentary on homelessness in Anchorage is kicking off a statewide screening tour with community showings starting Monday right here in town. Created by Norwegian filmmakers, it follows people living on Anchorage's streets through extreme seasons, aiming to spark honest local conversations rather than push specific policies. Screenings will be hosted at participating theaters across Alaska.
