Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Over 60% of Town Square Park bricks still await their owners with final pick-up near (adn.com) — If you bought a commemorative brick at Anchorage's Town Square Park in the '90s, you've got until Oct. 10 to claim it at the Mountain View pickup site. About 8,500 bricks still sit on pallets as the park undergoes a major redesign, and a new online search tool from the city's innovation team helps Anchorage residents quickly find their personalized bricks and pallet locations.
2. 907 Sports: UAA Hockey hosts #1 Denver, reigning NCAA champions this weekend (alaskasnewssource.com) — UAA hockey opens its season in Anchorage this weekend by hosting top-ranked Denver, the reigning NCAA champions, for a two-game series at Sullivan Arena. Local fans will remember the Seawolves' dramatic 4-3 overtime upset of Denver last season, and Denver coach David Carle is once again returning to his hometown rinks in Anchorage for this marquee matchup.
3. Bear claws at Eagle River doors, rips truck canopy apart chasing donut smell, owner says (alaskasnewssource.com) — A large brown bear roaming an Eagle River neighborhood badly damaged a family's truck canopy and clawed up multiple garage doors, apparently drawn by the donut smell from a Jason's Donuts trash-hauling truck. At least three nearby homes reported garage damage, and the shop owners briefly closed while arranging repairs and waiting for Fish and Game to take a report.
4. Assemblyman Donald Handeland proposes district elections for Anchorage School Board (thealaskastory.com) — Anchorage residents could soon vote on a major change to how their School Board is elected, shifting six seats to district-based elections while keeping one at-large. Assembly member Donald Handeland's proposal heads to the Assembly in early October, with a possible public hearing at Loussac Library and a citywide vote in April 2027 if it advances.
