Here are the top three stories today in Anchorage:

  1. Florists throughout Anchorage were busy putting together beautiful arrangements to celebrate Valentine’s Day. According to Jessica Adler, assistant manager of Hummel’s Flowers, Valentine’s Day brings in “about three times our normal business for any other day, or week, or month for that matter.” Adler noted that the majority of the business on Valentine’s Day comes from men, accounting for usually 80-90 percent. 2. Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race’s ceremonial start will be returning to downtown Anchorage this year. Due to COVID-19, 2021 was the only time in Iditarod history that the ceremonial start didn’t take place on the streets and trails of downtown Anchorage, according to Iditarod CEO Rob Urbach. This year marks the semicentennial for the beloved race, which is back on track with mushers taking the Northern Route as they usually do on even years, taking mushers from the ceremonial start in Anchorage all the way to Nome. 3. The Anchorage man who previously walked the equivalent of the circumference of the Earth with his dog is seeking answers after an attack. Last year, Mike Mitchell and his dog, Chance, walked over 24,901 miles, or the equivalent of walking the circumference of the Earth in an effort to get healthy. On Thursday, Mitchell and Chance walked from Elmore Road down to Lake Otis Parkway on Abbott Road when they were attacked by a dog. The 9-year-old Shih Tzu was rushed to Midnight Sun Animal Hospital where they stitched up his bite marks. (Newsbreak)
