Here are the top three stories today in Anchorage:

  1. On Saturday, Alaska Congressman Don Young attended the combined Republican conventions for District 27 and 28 at the Curtis Menard Center. Members of the party gathered to elect officers and delegates ahead of the Republican State Conventions, taking place in Fairbanks this April. Congressman Young aimed to dispel rumors he would not be running this year, stating, "I'm running hard ... my job is to hear you, listen to you, and try to solve your problems. And I'm ... still good at that." (Must Read Alaska)
  2. It's been a snowy February in Anchorage, a trend that shows no signs of letting up. Anchorage has already seen 15 inches of snow halfway through the month, with predictions of close to 30 inches by February's end. An active weather pattern continuing through the week is expected to add to the area's totals. (Alaska News Source)
  3. Sonia Guiñansaca is a member of the Kichwa Kañari from Ecuador, as well as an award-winning queer migrant poet, cultural organizer, and social justice activist. Today at 12:15 p.m., Guiñansaca joins Melissa Shaginoff and E.J. R. David, Ph.D. at the Anchorage Museum for "Considering Cultural Appropriation." The program reflects on the difference between cultural inspiration, appreciation, and appropriation and is moderated by Alice Qannik Glenn, host of podcast Coffee & Quaq. Registration is required for this free event. (Facebook)
