Here are the top 3 stories in Anchorage today:
- An Idahoan man has finally been arrested for the shooting and killing of an Anchorage taxi driver from a cold case all the way back from 1985. DNA testing was able to help investigators connect Eric Lane Jones to Jawed Ahmed’s death. Authorities hope that this news will be able to bring Ahmed's family and friends some closure and peace. (Anchorage Daily News)
- The effort to recall Jamie Allard from the Anchorage Assembly has failed to gather enough signatures. It all began in Nov. of 2021, during which members of the initiative had 60 days to gather 2,530 signatures from voters in Allard’s district; that window closed on Tuesday. Organizers claim their efforts were heavily affected by the holidays, the pandemic, and the bullying. (Anchorage Daily News)
- The Anchorage Chamber Of Commerce is now recruiting for the 3rd cohort. After a successful 2021, they are looking for the next five early-stage Alaskan startups to join them for the 3rd gBETA Anchorage accelerator cohort. They have a partnership with the Alaska Angel Conference this year in hopes to bring the founders more access to local angel investors and special events. (Press Release Desk)

- The Alaska Zoo is encouraging everyone to visit Errol. Errol is a very handsome Great gray owl. Great gray owls usually live in the boreal forests around us but are not often seen. Errol was taken to live at the zoo after sustaining a head injury in the wild years ago. He is one of many birds at the zoo who are non-releasable. (Facebook)
- The Anchorage Museum is promoting its new extended hours. A stroll through the museum's four floors of exhibitions is a great way to get through the cold and dark Friday nights. The Anchorage Museum is now open until 9:00 PM every Friday until April 2022. Go check it out! (Instagram)
