UAA's Department of Residence Life is now recruiting for our Alaska Native, Indigenous,
and Rural Outreach Program Coordinator. The Department of Residence Life at the University
of Alaska Anchorage provides students with a living and learning environment that
supports the academic experience. The Alaska Native, Indigenous, and Rural Outreach
Program (ANIROP) Coordinator plays a vital role in welcoming and supporting our Alaska
Native and Indigenous residents, as well as residents from rural areas. Residence
Life is seeking candidates eager to work with college students from diverse backgrounds
and experiences navigate the collegiate experience while educating our community on
Alaska Native and Alaskan cultures. Beyond one-one connections with students, the
ANIROP Coordinator manages the Cama-i Room, a social gathering place, study center,
and space for all residents to connect to community and University resources. The
ANIROP Coordinator works closely with Native Student Services, as well as other Alaska
Native serving organizations, to achieve the goal of supporting each Alaska Native
and Indigenous student’s personal and academic success. Candidates should have experience
with and a passion for working with Alaska Native and Indigenous populations. Candidates
with experience working in residential settings, especially in an educational context,
will be well prepared to work with our diverse student population. Similarly, candidates
with a background in behavioral health or social work will be able to assist residents
in overcoming life challenges that create barriers to their success while in college.
