• Second Skagway jewelry store reaches settlement with the state for misrepresenting products (khns.org) — A Skagway jewelry store, Jewelry Land, has agreed to a $20,000 settlement with the state after investigators said staff misrepresented some items as containing Alaska-mined gold and gold quartz. Co-owner Zahid Sumbal, who has lived in Skagway since 2007, says an employee misspoke, the problematic jewelry line has been dropped, and staff have been retrained as part of broader state efforts to protect Alaska's tourism economy.
