Arizona Elections: Monday Is The Last Day To Register To Vote

Oct. 5 is the last day Arizonans can register to vote in the general election, as well as state and local races.

ARIZONA — The deadline to register to vote in Arizona for the general election is Monday, Oct. 5. The same goes for state and local elections.

Anyone who registers to vote after Monday will not be able to vote in the Nov. 3 general election. If you have moved since the last election, you will need to register at your new address. Ballots will not be forwarded to your new home.

Arizonans can register online at their county's website or on ServiceArizona. In Pima County and Maricopa County, you must have a driver's license or identification card issued on or after Oct. 1, 1996. You must also have lived within county limits at least 29 days prior to the general election to be eligible for registration. If you do not present proof of citizenship, you will only be allowed to vote in federal races.

Both counties also offer paper registration and ways to update existing voter registration if you wish to change party affiliation or have changed addresses since the last election. Printed registration forms can be found at libraries, post offices and recorder's offices.

The Pima County Recorder's Office will stay open until 10 p.m. Monday to accommodate last-minute registrations. Voters can stop by the downtown office at 240 N. Stone Ave., and the east side office at 6920 E Broadway Blvd, Suite D.

“We offer extended hours on the voter registration deadline day,” Pima County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez said in a statement. “Voters may come to our office and complete paper forms. Now is the time to register; do not risk missing the cutoff date.”

Counties will begin sending out mail-in ballots Wednesday. With the coronavirus creating complications for in-person voting, a record number of mail-in ballots have been requested. In Pima County, 472,717 early ballots will be sent to voters, Rodriguez said.

Maricopa County changed from assigned polling places in locations like schools and senior centers to larger locations with spacious facilities to adjust to a coronavirus-era election. The county currently counts 2,549,027 active voters. Nearly two million of them are listed as permanent early voters.

Early voting in Arizona begins on Oct. 7 and will run until Oct. 30.
