AZ Coronavirus Update, May 15: 495 New Cases, 27 New Deaths

The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 495 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number to 13,169 as of Friday.

The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 495 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number to 13,169 as of Friday. There were also 27 additional deaths, bringing that total number to 651.

To date, state health officials said 186,904 people have been tested for the conoravirus. Of that number, 6.2 percent have tested positive.

  • Pima County: 1,750 cases, 155 deaths
  • Navajo County: 1,177 cases, 48 deaths
  • Apache County: 927 cases, 16 deaths
  • Coconino County: 823 cases, 62 deaths
  • Pinal County: 670 cases, 28 deaths
  • Mohave County: 242 cases, 27 deaths
  • Yuma County: 310 cases, 4 deaths
  • Yavapai County: 254 cases, 5 deaths
  • Santa Cruz County: 69 cases, 0 deaths
  • Cochise County: 45 cases, 0 deaths
  • La Paz County: 36 cases, 0 deaths
  • Graham County: 21 cases, 0 deaths
  • Gila County: 22 cases, 0 deaths
  • Greenlee County: 2 cases, 0 deaths

According to the latest data, 1,629 people are currently hospitalized for COVID-19. Maricopa County has the number of hospitalizations, with 8977 people receiving medical care for the virus.

Most of the people who are currently hospital for COVID-19 are 65 years of age and older, the latest numbers show. Of the hospitalizations, 53 percent are male and 47 percent are female. When broken down by race, 40 percent of the current hospitalizations are white, 27 percent are Hispanic, 10 percent are Native American and 5 percent are black.

As of Thursday, 566 ventilators were in use for hospital patients receiving treatment for COVID-19. The latest figures also show that 1,206 ventilators are currently available at Arizona hospitals.
