Chandler Arson Suspect Dies Of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound
Nathan Daniel Griffis is believed to have set the fire at the SUper 8 Motel on 56th Street and Chandler Boulevard.

The man who is believed to have start a fire at the Super 8 Motel in Chandler and then fired at passing cars, hitting one, is dead after turning his gun on himself, according to police, Nathan Daniel Griffis, 37, had shot himself after being surrounded in a bakery where he had fled.
It started around 11:30 on Friday morning.
Police were called to the Super 8 near 56th Street and Chandler Boulevard where a fire had been set. Officers were given a description of Griffis and told he had fired at passing cars.

Officers were notified that he had run into the Holsom Bakery a couple of blocks away. Griffis - who was armed - told employees to leave.
While they were able to contact Griffis inside the bakery, a short time later, he was discovered inside, having suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He died the next day at the hospital.
Mesa Police have since identified Griffis as a suspect in an arson and burglary investigation there.
