Mesa Councilman Had .220 Blood Alcohol Level When Arrested For DUII

Ryan Winkle was stopped in May.

When Mesa Councilman Ryan Winkle was pulled over in early May and charged with driving under the influence, he had a .220 blood alcohol level, Tempe Police said.

Winkle had been pulled over by officers near Mill Avenue and Baseline Road. They had seen him weaving as he drove.

Police said after they pulled him over, he demonstrated signs of being impaired.

As part of the traffic stop, officers took a blood sample. The results came back Tuesday showing his blood alcohol level.

Winkle said he is taking a leave of absence but won't step down.
