• In Arizona, state law may not protect horses from slaughter (courthousenews.com) — Wild horse management around Heber-Overgaard is at the center of a heated legal and on-the-ground standoff between advocates, a local rancher, and the U.S. Forest Service. A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Forest Service from removing the Heber herd, while questions remain over whether ranchers can legally claim unbranded horses near town and send them to slaughter under Arizona’s stray livestock laws.
