Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Peoria, AZ (businessviewmagazine.com) — Peoria is aggressively reshaping its future, from downtown redevelopment to a massive Innovation Core anchored by Amkor's $12 billion semiconductor facility and hundreds of acres of new employment land. City leaders are pairing that growth with big investments in water, roads, housing diversity, workforce training, and even a potential North Peoria hospital, all aimed at letting residents work, learn, and get care closer to home.
2. Second teen accuses former Centennial High teacher of grooming (azfamily.com) — Peoria Unified School District is facing a second legal claim from a teenage boy who says a former Centennial High School teacher groomed and exploited him, raising new questions about district oversight. The notice of claim seeks $7 million and follows an earlier, larger claim, while Peoria police continue an active criminal investigation that could still lead to charges.
3. 11th Annual Peoria Spooktacular Halloween Party (signalsaz.com) — Families in Peoria can head to Fletcher Heights Park on Lone Cactus Drive for the 11th Annual Peoria Spooktacular, featuring food trucks, trick-or-treating, costume contests, and an outdoor screening of Illumination's new Minions & Monsters movie. Activities start at 4 p.m., with contests, a kids' dance party, and a full movie-theater-style audio and video experience supported by the city's Arts & Culture team.
4. Two West Valley senior communities celebrate Oktoberfest (yourvalley.net) — Peoria seniors and their families can enjoy an Oktoberfest celebration at Vista del Rio on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 4-7 p.m. at 13619 N. 94th Drive, with chef-prepared German dishes, drinks, and community tours. RSVPs are required by Oct. 12, and the event also supports local causes through raffles and donations.
5. Gunshots heard on open 911 line before 2 found dead in Peoria home (azfamily.com) — Two people were found dead in a Peoria home near 83rd Avenue and Beardsley Road after a 911 caller reported a possible murder-suicide and dispatchers heard gunshots over an open line. Peoria police and SWAT entered the house and discovered an 86-year-old man and 78-year-old woman, and investigators currently believe the deaths were suicides while they continue looking into what happened.
