Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- The first big heat wave is coming this week. According to the National Weather Service, the high on Wednesday will reach 108. Highs will rise through the week, reaching 113 on Saturday. Overnight lows aren't expected to bring much relief: Wednesday's low will be in the low 80s, while the rest of the week will remain in the mid-80s. The weather service advises staying inside when possible, staying hydrated, and not leaving any children or animals unattended in vehicles. (Phoenix Patch)
- A man and woman were shot in what police say was a fight between four people on Monday morning. According to investigators, the shooting occurred at a bus stop on 19th and Dunlap Avenues at 4:00 a.m. Both victims were taken to the hospital. As of Monday afternoon, the woman is in critical condition and the man's situation is not life-threatening. Two people were taken into custody. (Arizona's Family)
- The Phoenix-area city Tempe is adding the 85288 zip code as a result of rapid growth in the area, according to the U.S. Postal Service. Areas receiving the update include Rolling Hills and the Tempe Marketplace. The new zip code goes into effect on Jul. 1. Click the link to see the map displaying the changes. (KJZZ)
