Alhambra Schools In Phoenix To Close Over Coronavirus Concerns
The Alhambra Elementary School District, which serves about 12,000 Phoenix students, will close temporarily, according to reports.
PHOENIX, AZ — The Alhambra Elementary School District in Phoenix will temporarily close starting Monday due to concerns over the new coronavirus, a school board member told The Arizona Republic. The district serves about 12,o00 Phoenix students.
District students originally were scheduled to return to class Monday following spring break, the newspaper reported. While there are no known cases of coronavirus within the district, district spokeswoman Linda Jeffries told the Republic the decision was made as a precaution "to ensure the health and well-being of all students and employees."
The decision comes despite the state's recommendation to not close schools.
