PHOENIX, AZ — If you've been thinking about adopting a shelter pet, Thursday might be your day.
Carvana is covering up to $250 in standard adoption fees at five Phoenix-area shelters for National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, making it possible to bring home a dog, cat or even a reptile without the usual upfront cost.
The one-day promotion runs Thursday during regular business hours at the Arizona Humane Society, Incredibull Stella, Whisker Outpost, AZ Husky Rescue and Eclecteri.
There's one thing to know before you head out: at the Arizona Humane Society, the covered fees apply only to adult cats, which the organization identified as its most urgent need.
The humane society is also waiving adoption fees entirely for dogs 50 pounds and over at all of its adoption locations Thursday.
Those adoptions can happen at any of three Phoenix locations: 5501 E. Van Buren St., 1521 W. Dobbins Road or 9226 N. 13th Ave.
For the other four shelters, Carvana recommends checking each organization's website to schedule an appointment ahead of time, as they are smaller operations than the humane society.
In many cases, adoption fees already cover services like spay or neuter surgery, microchipping and vaccinations, though offerings vary by shelter.
Any adoption costs beyond $250 would not be covered by the promotion.
Thursday is the only day the deal applies, so if you've been on the fence about adopting, this is a pretty good reason to get off it.
