Hiker Rescued Following Medical Emergency On Phoenix Hiking Trail

The rescue came as an Extreme Heat Warning remained in effect across the Phoenix area, with temperatures expected to approach record highs.

PHOENIX, AZ — A man was taken to the hospital Sunday after suffering a seizure on a popular Phoenix hiking trail that left him unable to make it down on his own.

Phoenix Fire Department crews responded to the Quartz Ridge Trail off East Sierra Vista Drive early Sunday afternoon after receiving calls about a man experiencing a medical emergency.

Firefighters hiked up the trail, found the man, and helped him off the mountain. He was then taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

All rescue crew members made it off the trail safely, fire officials said.

No further details were released.

The rescue came as an extreme heat warning remained in effect for the Phoenix area.

During such warnings, the city restricts access between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at several popular hiking areas, including Camelback Mountain's Echo Canyon and Cholla trails, Piestewa Peak and associated trails in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve, and select trails at South Mountain Park and Preserve.
