PHOENIX, AZ — A 26-year-old Arizona State University student who disappeared at the Grand Canyon last month has been found dead, the National Park Service confirmed.
Park personnel found the body of Sandarsh Krishna on May 9, below the rim near Verkamp's Visitor Center on the South Rim, one of the park's busiest areas.
He had been reported missing on April 28.
Krishna's disappearance came to light when, a day after he was expected to leave the canyon, a park visitor turned in his backpack to lost and found, according to officials.
His family said he had told friends he planned to stop in Las Vegas before heading back to the Valley for finals at ASU.
The Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office is working to determine how Krishna died.
The National Park Service has not released details about the circumstances of his death or how long he had been below the rim before he was found.
The investigation remains ongoing.
