Phoenix Roads Targeted In Statewide Traffic Crackdown Ahead Of Memorial Day

PHOENIX, AZ — Arizona state troopers are hitting the roads with a clear message starting this weekend: buckle up or get a ticket.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is ramping up seat belt enforcement statewide from May 18 through May 31 as part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign. High-visibility patrols will focus on seat belt and child restraint violations across the state.

The stakes are real. In 2025, Arizona DPS troopers responded to nearly 300 fatal collisions — and about one-third of those killed were not properly restrained.

That same year, troopers issued more than 13,000 citations for seat belt violations and more than 1,700 for child restraint violations.

"Seat belts, booster seats and car seats are critical in preventing ejection during a crash and significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death," the department said.

The enforcement push is part of Arizona DPS's broader Arrive Alive Arizona campaign, which aims to reduce dangerous driving behaviors statewide.

For drivers, the message is simple: buckle everyone up before pulling out of the driveway, including kids in the proper restraint for their age and size.

The patrols run through May 31.
