PHOENIX, AZ — North Phoenix is finally getting its own Trader Joe's.
The specialty grocery chain is planning a new location at Desert Ridge Marketplace, 21001 N. Tatum Blvd., confirmed by officials at Desert Ridge Marketplace.
The news first surfaced earlier this year when a liquor license application was filed with the city of Phoenix.
The store would be the fourth Trader Joe's in Phoenix and the first to serve the northern part of the city.
Trader Joe's currently operates 20 locations across Arizona, with three other Phoenix stores, but none as far north as the Desert Ridge site.
No opening date has been announced.
The planned store fits into a broader expansion by the Monrovia-based grocer, which is adding locations across the country.
Stores marked "opening soon" on the company's website include locations in Texas, Kansas, Washington, Florida, Georgia and two in Louisiana.
Trader Joe's has described its growth as deliberately paced. In a 2024 episode of the company's Inside Trader Joe's podcast, marketing executives Tara Miller and Matthew Sloan said the chain weighs population density, traffic patterns, site access and parking before committing to a new location.
"This is very deliberate, and for us, what's important is that it's controlled growth," Sloan said. "We have to grow in a way that fits our business model."
For North Phoenix, the wait may finally be paying off.
