PHOENIX, AZ — A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash at one of north Phoenix’s busiest intersections early Tuesday, prompting a police investigation.
Phoenix police responded just before 6 a.m. to Cave Creek Road and Greenway Road after reports of a downed cyclist. When officers arrived, they found an adult with severe injuries in the roadway.
Phoenix Fire crews took the victim to a nearby hospital, where the person died.
Police said, according to reports, the driver had already fled the scene, but officers later tracked down a suspect and took that person into custody Tuesday morning.
No charges had been announced as of early Tuesday, and the investigation remained active.
The victim has not been publicly identified, and police have not released details about how the crash unfolded.
The crash shut down the Cave Creek Road and Greenway Road intersection during the morning commute. Police also set up a media staging area at the southeast corner of the intersection while investigators worked the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department.
