PHOENIX, AZ — A hiker reported missing nearly four days ago was found dead Tuesday morning at South Mountain Park, prompting a brief closure of the Mormon Trailhead before the area reopened.
According to reports, the body belonged to the hiker who had been missing for days.
Phoenix Fire crews responded to the Mormon Trail around 5:30 a.m. and found an unresponsive man about a mile up the trail. He could not be resuscitated.
A Phoenix Police Department helicopter was used to remove the body from the mountain.
The investigation led to a temporary closure of the Mormon Trailhead parking lot early Tuesday. The trailhead reopened to the public around 7:15 a.m.
The hiker has not been publicly identified, and no cause of death has been released as of Tuesday morning.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
