Extreme Heat Watch Issued As Phoenix Faces Hottest Stretch Of Season

PHOENIX, AZ — The hottest stretch of the season so far is bearing down on Phoenix, with the National Weather Service issuing an Extreme Heat Watch ahead of triple-digit highs expected to peak Wednesday and Thursday.

Forecasters say lower desert temperatures, including Phoenix, will climb to 110 to 115 degrees by midweek as a strengthening subtropical high builds over the region.

Highs are expected to reach 110 starting Tuesday, with much of the lower desert sitting in the 111 to 114 degree range Wednesday and Thursday.

There won't be much relief overnight either. Lows are expected to stay in the low to mid-80s across much of the area, with the Phoenix metro running even warmer, into the upper 80s and near 90 degrees in some spots.

Forecasters attribute the warmer nights to increasing low-level moisture moving into the region.

The week is expected to stay mostly dry, with only a slim chance of isolated showers or weak storms midweek across the western deserts. Any shower activity is expected to stay limited and focused mainly west of Phoenix.

The heat won't ease up immediately. Friday highs are still forecast between 110 and 113 degrees before slightly cooler conditions move in over the weekend.

As temperatures begin to drop, forecasters say the bigger concern could shift to breezy, locally windy conditions and elevated fire weather risk by Friday or Saturday.
