PHOENIX, AZ — Sky Harbor is getting the biggest slice of a new round of FAA airport grants in Arizona.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is set to receive $18,029,200 for a new taxiway and apron reconstruction, the largest single award in a $32 million package headed to 12 Arizona airports.
The grant is part of a $1.8 billion nationwide airport funding package announced Thursday by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
The FAA said the money will support runway rehabilitations, safety upgrades and infrastructure improvements at airports across the country.
Arizona’s other 11 recipients range from tribal and rural airstrips to regional airports:
FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the agency is focused on moving grants quickly and efficiently, calling the funding an investment that goes beyond runways to improve the travel experience.
Duffy said the spending is part of a broader push to modernize U.S. transportation infrastructure.
The FAA did not provide a construction timeline or say when work at Sky Harbor is expected to begin.
