Phoenix Rolls Out $700 Relief Program For Residents Who Lost SNAP Benefits

The city says the one-time program is first come, first served for households that lost SNAP on or after Oct. 1, 2025.

PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix residents who lost all of their food stamp benefits on or after Oct. 1, 2025, can now apply for up to $700 in one-time city help to cover utility and transportation costs.

The Targeted One-Time Crisis Assistance Program launched Monday and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once funds run out, the program will close, so eligible residents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

The assistance includes up to $600 applied directly to a utility account and $100 in transportation help through a gas card or bus or light rail pass.

City officials said the goal is to help families keep the lights on and get to the grocery store after losing federal nutrition support.

To qualify, applicants must live in Phoenix or receive City of Phoenix water services and must have experienced a complete loss of SNAP benefits on or after Oct. 1, 2025.

Assistance is limited to once per household between July 1, 2026, and June 30, 2027.

Applications require a valid photo ID, proof of Phoenix residency such as a utility bill, lease or mortgage statement, a SNAP case number and utility account numbers.

The city may request additional documents to verify eligibility, officials said.

Due to high demand, staff will review applications and contact applicants within 15 business days, not counting city holidays.

Residents unsure whether they qualify based on their address can check through the program page. Applications will be accepted until funds are exhausted, and no end date has been announced.
