Arizona Minimum Wage Goes Up 50 Cents On New Year's

It is the second of four planned increases that will bring it to $12 in 2020.

PHOENIX - The minimum wage is going up on New Year's Day. It will rise to $10.50 each hour.

It's part of a series of hikes that will bring the minimum wage in Arizona to $12 in 2020.

Votes approved the raises in November 2016 when they voted for Proposition 206.

At the time, the minimum wage in the state had been $8.05.

It goes to $11 each hour in 2019 and then $12 the following year.

After that the hike will be linked to inflation.

Certain businesses where employees receive tips such as restaurants will be allowed to pay their workers $3 per hour below minimum wage as long as, with tips, they receive at least $10.50 each hour.

The new wage doesn't apply to people like baby sitters as well as federal and state workers.
