AZ Mom Pleads Not Guilty In Child Murder Case

Her kids were left in a hot car for hours, cold to the touch when they were found, reports say.

SUPERIOR, AZ — An Arizona woman accused of killing her children pleaded not guilty on Friday to two counts each of second-degree murder and child abuse, according to reports. Brittany Velasquez, 20, told reporters she felt "betrayed" by her babysitter who she claims was watching her kids when they died.

Velasquez said she found her 10-month-old daughter and 2-year-old son in a car in front of her home in Superior on Monday, March 26, FOX10 reported. She said the kids were not breathing and had blood coming from their mouths.

Court documents say the children had been in the car for several hours, and this was known because there was condensation on the inside of the windows and the kids were cold to the touch.

Velasquez reportedly tried to blame the deaths on her grandparents, who denied knowing of any babysitting arrangements. FOX10 also reported Velasquez told police she dropped her kids off at a babysitter before going to work.

The babysitter, who was unnamed in documents, claimed to know nothing about Velasquez's claim that she had dropped her kids off.

"I haven't been showing too much emotion to everything that's going on, because I don't know how to feel. I'm just very hurt. My pride and joy were taken from me, and it makes me really mad," she told FOX10.

But authorities say Velasquez never left her kids with a babysitter at all. They say she left them in the car all day, leading to their deaths.

Velasquez is appearing in court Friday, April 13.
