Baby Survives After Pregnant Woman Dies At West Phoenix Motel: Police

A 36-year-old woman died after she was found at a Phoenix motel, and her baby remained hospitalized Tuesday.

PHOENIX, AZ — A 36-year-old Phoenix woman has died after being found critically injured at a motel near Thomas Road and Black Canyon Access early Sunday.

Her baby, delivered by emergency surgery at a hospital, is in stable condition, police said.

Phoenix police identified the woman as Savannah Abraham in a statement released Monday.

Officers responded around 5:56 a.m. Sunday to a report of an injured person at the motel. Phoenix Fire Department personnel found Abraham in critical condition and took her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Emergency surgery was performed and the infant was saved.

During the response, officers found the motel room where Abraham had been located and secured the area. Additional children were also present, and the Department of Child Safety was contacted to assist.

Homicide detectives responded to process the scene. Police said evidence gathered during the investigation suggested the injury was self-inflicted.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner will make the final determination on the cause of death.
