Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- Phoenix area car dealerships are hoping to help foster children in the Luggage of Love donation drive. Throughout the entire month of March, they are collecting luggage for those in need. Luggage tags will be located in participating car dealerships and contain a list of items foster children need for their tough transitions. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
- The City of Phoenix has announced that three popular local trails, Camelback Mountain's Echo, Cholla Trails, and all trails associated with Piestewa Peak Trailhead in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve, will close from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on days when the National Weather Service issues an Excessive Heat Warning. During these days, trail access will be limited, parking lot gates will be closed, and signage will be posted, according to a press release from the City. Closure information will be posted on the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department's website and social media accounts, as well as local resorts and hotels. (Phoenix Patch)
- In Phoenix, the PALSavesKids program will prompt locksmiths to open cars for free to save kids and pets. As temperatures rise, officials with the National Safety Council say about 38 children under 15 die every year after being left in a vehicle. People with smart keys are also encouraged to think twice before leaving their keys in their cars. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
